With an almost one hundred year history, Mazda has consistently produced some of the finest automobiles in the world. The Mazda RX-7
The RX-7 is a classic and beloved sports car that was manufactured for 24 years. Mazda produced three generations of this vehicle all with the rotary engine otherwise known as a Wankel engine. The RX-7 frequently made best-of lists and is even considered by some to be the greatest sports car ever made.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Miata made a splash when it was introduced in 1989. Known for being modern, light, speedy, and reliable, the Miata is a two seater roadster. Ever wonder where the word “miata” comes from? It actually traces its origins back to German and means “reward.”
When first introduced, the Miata presented a resurgence of sorts for small roadsters. Throughout its production, it has won multiple awards and been named to many lists as one of the best cars in its class to own.
Mazda Cosmo L10A/L10B
Dipping back into history a bit, the Mazda Cosmo L10A/L10B was the car that Mazda used to successfully introduce the Wankel (or rotary) engine. Produced from 1967-1972, the car was named Cosmo in order to reflect the human fascination with space and space age technology. The Cosmo was sold exclusively in Japan.
Mazda RX-8
The RX-8 ran for just ten years from 2002-2012 but made a mark in the world of vehicles nonetheless. Powered by the signature Wankel engine, the RX-8 served as a successor to the popular RX-7 and combined some of the features of both the predecessor and the Cosmo. Mazda’s production of the RX-8 was a good faith effort to make a mark on the world of sports and performance cars in the US.
Mazda Carol
The first generation of Carols were produced from 1962-1970. Slotting into the kei car classification, the cars were thus named to be reminiscent of a joyful song. Mechanically, the car surpassed all other vehicles in the same category and easily secured a dominant share of the market. Fun fact! The millionth Mazda car to be produced was a Carol.
Mazda RX-3/Savanna
The Savanna was produced from 1971-1978 but only known as the Savanna in Japan. Other countries knew the car as the RX-3. The Savanna was a great car for racing and also made a mark as an environmentally friendly car by being fuel efficient and having great performance. The Savanna made a huge impact on the market and became a dominant racing car for Mazda.
Mazda6
The Mazda 6 is a mid-size family car and has been in production since 2002. Mazda launched a new marketing campaign and branding with the Mazda6, emphasizing that Mazda cars are “Stylish, Insightful, and Spirited.’ A high performance version of the Mazda6 was available in some markets as the Mazdaspeed6 and made its debut in 2006.
The Mazda6 is sportier and has easier handling than some of the other vehicles in its class. This makes it a natural choice for people who value an excellent driving experience.
Rotary Trucks
In the early fifties, Japan experienced some economic growth and the demand of small four wheel trucks emerged. Mazda took advantage of this situation by producing the Romper in 1958, a truck that was equipped with the latest technology and met the needs of the populace. In the 60s, Mazda furthered their truck technology and while they stopped producing pickups in Japan, the B series enjoyed international success.
The Mazda CX-5
In 2012, Mazda introduced a mid-size compact crossover in the CX-5. The CX-5 was the first vehicle to include the full Skyactiv Technology. The CX-5 is known for excellent handling, great safety standards and records, and great performance. The CX-5 quickly became a very popular vehicle for Mazda and a new look for the popular vehicle was introduced for the 2017 lineup.
The Mazda Familia
Introduced in the 60s, the Familia started out as a sleek and modern van. Shortly after its introduction, the Familia grabbed a huge share of the market proving that consumers had been looking for a reliable family vehicle.
Sensing an opportunity, Mazda continued development of the Familia as a sedan. The Familia spoke to modern motorists and made a huge impact on the class of sedans overall. The Familia would become the prime model for Mazda during its time. The car went through several redesigns and iterations and even made a starring appearance in the film, “The Yellow Handkerchief of Happiness.”
The car continued to evolve throughout the years before ending with an impressive 9th generation.
