Keep your high beams in check
High beams or "brights" are great to use when you're on an open road. They maximize your sight by letting you can see things you otherwise might not be able to. It's important to remember to turn your high beams off when you are around other motorists, though. Bright headlights can be blinding to those driving towards you as well as those in front of you. Your headlights will shine in their mirrors and make it difficult to see the road ahead. Go back to your low beams until it's clear again.
Give drivers more space
You should usually keep a couple car lengths between you and the car in front of you anyway, but consider giving yourself even more room at night. Other drivers are always unpredictable, so when you have less light, give yourself and everyone else a bit more time to react to the unexpected.
Dim your interior lights
If possible, dim your dashboard and accent lighting. Often times, your dash can shine brightly and cause a glare on the windshield which diminishes your visibility even more. Most vehicles have a dial near the steering wheel that controls the brightness of the interior lighting.
Other helpful things to remember when driving at night include driving slower, washing your windows to reduce glare, and keeping an extra eye out for pedestrians.
