There’s just something about hitting those long stretches of road where you can roll the windows down and get the air moving in your car. If you have a convertible life is even better when you can drop that top down and get the wind in your hair. It’s an exciting and free feeling, isn’t it?
With how fun it is you want to make sure you’re taking care of your convertible top just like you would with any other part of your car. How do you take care of that specialty equipment though? Can you just run through a car wash and hope that keeps it clean enough or are there extra steps you should take?
How Do I Care for my Convertible Top?
The first and most important step is figuring out just what your top material is because that will impact how you clean it and the wrong method might severely damage your top. Most convertible tops are either fabric or vinyl and your owner’s manual should tell you. If you want to double check or are unsure then an easy test is to just take a bit of water and rub it into the material. If the water gets soaked up it’s a fabric and if it doesn’t it is vinyl.
