Ways you can cool off your engine

Turn on the heat

Bear with us, this actually can cool off your engine if it is overheating. Don’t do this if you yourself are feeling extremely hot. If, however, you need to reduce the heat of your engine, turning the heat on draws hot air from your engine compartment and cools your engine.

Add coolant

This is a more logical solution. Adding engine coolant is a great first step. You should check your coolant levels anyway, especially when it gets hotter out. REMEMBER: Never add coolant to a hot engine. Turn off your car and let the engine cool before you open the hood.

Ways you can cool off the inside of your car

Park in the shade

This might be the easiest task on this list. If possible, park in a shady spot. This prevents the inside your car from getting too hot in the first place, and it will help it cool faster if it is already overheated. It can be 30° cooler in the shade and you will notice the difference immediately.

Turn the floor vents on

Hot air rises. So, if your bottom vents are open, your A/C will push out the hot air. After a few minutes, it should be cooled to your liking and you can open the upper vents as well.
