It’s time to start changing your driving habits for the fall

 Fall driving tips

The days will become shorter and the air may feel cooler. Summer is slowly coming to an end and we should start planning for some changes to occur. We have created a shortlist of three tips to keep in mind now that fall is upon us.

1. Beware of the leaves

Once they have fallen from the trees, leaves can become hazards on the road. They can prevent you from seeing potholes to avoid. They can make braking more difficult since they can be slippery on the road. If you can, try to avoid any hard braking on leaves, otherwise, you may risk losing control of your vehicle.

2. Keep an eye out for critters

Deer mating season happens in the fall, which means they are more active near the roadways. If you can, try to avoid driving near dawn and dusk, since this is when they run around the most. Otherwise, always keep your eyes moving from side to side on the road to help stop deer or any other animals on the road. Never swerve if you do see any critters because more often than not, drivers overcorrect and still end up in the ditch.

3. Plan for shorter days

With shorter days means you will need to plan for the sun to be in your eyes when you are driving home or it being dark by the time you leave work. Since the sun sets sooner, remember to bring along sunglasses so the glare doesn’t affect your vision. If you drive home during the dark, make sure you allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness before you drive off.
