Mazda is doubling down on their reputation for premium vehicles at an affordable price. Here’s why the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is worth the price, and then some.
CNBC Meets CX-5
Mazda vehicles have long been known as fun yet affordable. Providing sleek looks and feel with substantial savings versus their competition is where Mazda truly shines. This year the automaker is taking that motto to new heights with the Mazda CX-5 Signature. In a review from CNBC, Mack Hogan dropped details on why the CX-5 is such a stunner.

Hogan began his review by stating that while the CX-5 carries a price tag higher than some of the competition, it offers far more options and a very enticing interior.
Hogan detailed many of the great featured tech and amenities the CX-5 sports, and it was quite a list. Driving assistance supports such as a 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, radar cruise control and blind spot monitoring made his highlights.
Interior tech such as a heads-up display, a Bose sound system as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also made the list. Not to be left out, heated and cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel also achieved praise.
Impressive Inside and Out
Next, Hogan was pleased with the Mazda CX-5’s impressive interior. Noting the inside design is best-in-class, he said that the crossover crushed the competition. “Satin chrome trimming, layered wood and supple brown Nappa leather” combined to create a truly tasteful entry-level experience. Hogan rated the interior a 4.5 out of 5.
Calling the Mazda CX-5 “one of the best looking SUVs on sale today in any price point,” Hogan was a huge fan of the CX-5’s exterior design. He stated that the inclusion of rich Machine Gray Metallic paint alongside new alloy wheels on the Signature trim made the CX-5 even more appealing. Hogan gave the exterior a 4.5 out of 5, saying that the CX-5 Signature “looks every dollar of its near-$40,000 price tag”.
Taking the crossover out for a spin, the CX-5 remained one of Hogan’s heroes. He praised the impressive steering and control the CX-5 is known for and continues to provide. “It loves to hustle down twisty roads, but now it’s got the oomph to power out of corners thanks to a new engine.”
The CX-5 Signature is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cyl. engine that brought 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque to Hogan’s test run. Hogan noted that unlike the past, the 2019 CX-5 Signature has plenty of get up and go thanks to all that torque under the hood. “Through broken-up highways or tight hairpins, the CX-5 is comfortable, fast and fun in all situations.”
Another improvement from the past was updated noise isolation. Hogan noted the engine featured better muffling, road noise was less apparent and the sleek outer shell cut down on wind whipping. As a whole, Hogan gave the driving experience a 4.5 out of 5.

Affordable, Attractive, Awesome
Though he noted the high price multiple times, Hogan felt that the CX-5 Signature was more than worth the price. In fact he gave the affordability of the crossover a 5 out of 5. Hogan summed up his praise with a shining commendation for the CX-5, awarding it a 4.6 out of 5 overall. “It’s a league above cars like the Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue in terms of desirability, interior quality and driving experience.”
