2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo Engine

Keep reading to learn more about the Mazda CX-30’s standard engine, its new turbocharged engine, and how that new engine affects the beloved CX-30’s performance on the road.

The Mazda CX-30’s Standard Engine

All 2021 Mazda CX-30 models with the exception of the Mazda CX-30 Turbo models still come standard with the engine that has been the CX-30’s standard engine for multiple years. This means that the Base, Select, Preferred, and Premium trim levels of the 2021 Mazda CX-30 feature the CX-30’s non-turbocharged engine as standard.

This engine is a naturally aspirated 2.5-L inline-four engine that delivers 186 horsepower on the road. It pairs with a smooth six-speed automatic transmission that shifts gears seamlessly. This powertrain coupled with precise steering and a responsive braking system allows standard non-Turbo 2021 Mazda CX-30 models to deliver athletic performance on the road.

However, it definitely does not measure up to standards for sportier vehicles that are more engaging and more fun to drive. 2021 CX-30 models that are equipped with all-wheel drive and the standard non-turbocharged 2.5-L four-cylinder engine have a sluggish 0 MPH to 60 MPH acceleration time of 8.1 seconds, which sets these non-Turbo models behind many other subcompact crossover SUVs within their vehicle class in terms of speed and agility.

Front-wheel drive is standard for non-Turbo CX-30 models, but all trim levels of the 2021 Mazda CX-30 that are not turbocharged are available with all-wheel drive—although this option tacks an extra $1400 onto the price of this subcompact crossover SUV.

The Mazda CX-30’s New Available Engine

Although it does not come as a standard feature for the 2021 Mazda CX-30, Mazda’s new turbocharged engine is available for the special-edition 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo models. The Turbo trim levels include a base Turbo model as well as a mid-level Turbo

Premium model and a top-of-the-line Turbo Premium Plus model. All three of these Turbo models come with the CX-30’s new turbocharged engine as a standard feature.

This new available engine is a turbocharged 2.5-L four-cylinder engine that delivers 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque on the road. The level of power that this optional turbocharged engine provides for the CX-30 Turbo is unmatched by virtually every other model within its vehicle segment.

The turbocharged engine for the Mazda CX-30 pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission that offers a smooth and quiet ride on the road. All-wheel drive is also standard for all CX-30 Turbo models to ensure a sportier and more athletic feel on the road. The Mazda CX-30 Turbo models are definitely more fun to drive and easier to maneuver than non-Turbo CX-30 models for the 2021 model year.

0 MPH to 60 MPH acceleration speeds have not yet been released for the 2021 Turbo models, but turbocharged CX-30 models for the 2021 model year are expected to be much speedier and more agile on the road than their non-turbocharged counterparts.

More About the Mazda CX-30 Turbo

The differences between the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo model and all other non-Turbo CX-30 models doesn’t stop at the engine or even at the drive performance of these models.

The 2021 CX-30 Turbo model comes with some special appearance features. These exterior appearance features include special black 18-inch wheels, larger exhaust tips, black side mirrors, and a special Turbo badge on the rear of this subcompact crossover SUV.

Although the difference in appearance between the CX-30 Turbo models and non-Turbo CX-30 models are minor, the special design accents that are included with the 2021 Turbo models give this turbocharged crossover a bolder and sportier look on the road to match its bolder and sportier drive performance.

Price is also a factor when it comes to Mazda CX-30 Turbo models. The Base model of the non-turbocharged 2021 CX-30 starts at $23,000, and the top-of-the-line Premium non-Turbo trim level has a starting price of $29,650. The most simplistic Mazda Turbo model, on the other hand, has a much higher starting price of $31,000, and the Turbo Premium Plus model starts at $35,000.

For many drivers, however, the sporty look and feel of the Mazda CX-30 Turbo models are worth this significant price difference. Whether or not the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo is right for you depends on your own driving habits and preferences as well as your budget, but you really can’t go wrong with the CX-30 no matter which model you choose.
