2018 Mazda CX-5 gets named Top Safety Pick by IIHS
The Mazda CX-5 fits perfectly in the middle of the automaker’s crossover lineup. It’s not as big as the Mazda CX-9 and not quite as compact as the Mazda CX-3. Regardless of its size, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 upholds the safety standards that are so important to Mazda. Last month, the vehicle was recognized by being named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. That is one of the most prestigious honors that can be bestowed upon a vehicle. The IIHS stipulated that Mazda’s Adaptive Front Lighting must be equipped to the vehicle to obtain the Top Safety Pick+ status. Let’s explore what Adaptive Front Lighting is and does.

What is Mazda Adaptive Front Lighting?
Have you ever driven on a dark, desolate road at night and had trouble seeing what’s around the corner? That is precisely what the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) is designed to help. When equipped with AFS, your Mazda’s headlight will optimize the distribution of light. When you go around a turn, it can be difficult to see everything ahead of you. AFS allows the headlights to turn slightly and thus use more light in the direction it is needed. When turning right, your headlights will swivel to the right so you can better see what is ahead. It is important to remember that AFS is not a substitute for safe driving, but rather a helpful, innovative technological perk that makes driving easier. Always keep your eyes on the road ahead of you and stay attentive. And, as always, talk to us about any safety concerns you have!
