Mazda hits the top of the charts on the Consumer Reports list

Consumer Reports ranks Mazda at the top of its 2021 Brand Report Card for the first time ever

Every year Consumer Reports creates a ranking for the topmost reliable automotive brands in the industry. Mazda has taken the top title! Keep reading to learn more about the brand’s accomplishment.

What decides the ranking of the vehicles?

To test the market and determine rankings, Consumer Reports personnel buy vehicles anonymously from dealerships to do road testing. These tests consist of comparing how the braking, handling, convenience, comfort, fuel economy and safety all add up. Consumer Report subscribers also add more data points to the research through survey responses. This list ranks 32 brands in total.

How did Mazda rise to the top?

While many automakers saw their numbers dwindle last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mazda sales grew. Many thanks go to the popular CX-9 SUV and CX-30 crossover.

Where do other brands rank?

After Mazda, the other brands that follow include BMW, Subaru, Porsche and Honda. Alfa Romeo ends the list of brands at the bottom which follows brands like Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Jeep and Lincoln. Lincoln had the biggest drop – a total of 15 spots - due to “below-average reliability.” Tesla also saw a drop in ranking and fell five places.
