The philosophy
Mazda has done everything in its power to create and implement the most advanced safety technologies possible. The primary goal of the automaker is to provide drivers with the highest quality while maintaining state of the art safety performance. The ultimate task Mazda wishes to accomplish is to contribute to an accident-free automotive society.
i-ACTIVSENSE
Mazda's specific umbrella term covers all of the company's safety features that use detection devices like radar and cameras. i-ACTIVSENSE includes pre-crash detection and blind spot monitoring. Basically, i-ACTIVSENSE helps to maximize awareness of everyone in the car.
Intelligent Transport System
Otherwise known as ITS, this system has actually been in the works since 1991. ITS is designed to help reduce the number of traffic accidents and ease congestion by transmitting signals of information on drivers, vehicles, and roads. It's a complicated process, so read more about it here.
Active vs. passive safety technologies
The primary difference between active and passive safety features is pretty clear. Active safety is designed to prevent accidents from happening. Passive technology helps stabilize and reduce the damage caused in the event of an accident. Examples of active safety features include high beam control, driver attention alert, radar cruise control, and a lane departure warning system, among many others. Passive features include, but are not limited to Mazda's SRS airbag system, SKYACTIV-BODY, impact-absorbing steering system, and an anti-intrusion brake pedal. All of Mazda's safety technologies are designed to give you the safest possible driving experience while still having an enjoyable ride.
